Corporate environmental protection

We have dedicated ourselves to respectful handling of resources and the environment — to that end we see our greatest tasks particularly in the topics of energy and emissions, waste and recycling as well as transport safety and logistics.

Corporate environmental protection

Careful management of valuable resources

For KraussMaffei, environmental protection means dealing carefully with resources and acting in an environmentally friendly manner. This means that we keep our impact on the environment as low as possible, prevent environmental damage and minimize operational malfunctions. To achieve these goals, we consistently implement all the applicable legal mandates regarding the limitation of air and soil contamination, discharge into groundwater, other emissions into the environment, plus the transport and storage of hazardous materials. For us, investments in environmental protection are always investments for future generations.

As a mechanical engineering company, energy and emissions, waste and recycling as well as transport safety and logistics are important sustainability topics for us. Thanks to renovations and modernizations, we have achieved significant success in recent years precisely in the area of reducing energy consumption and emissions. We regularly check our energy consumption and work out reduction measures based on the results. For waste disposal we strictly adhere to the legal mandates and dispose of waste properly, if it cannot be recycled. To minimize safety risks, internal control systems for documenting and testing hazardous materials transportation have been established in the area of transport security and logistics. The respective companies independently bear responsibility for implementing and testing the measures for corporate environmental protection.

For example, the management structures and environmental protection activities of KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH at the Munich location are presented in the following. An Environmental Protection Officer is responsible for the areas of environmental protection and work safety there. This officer's area of responsibilities includes imission protection, water pollution control and disposal management. The Environmental Protection Officer not only ensures compliance with the applicable regulations, but also documents all activities and carries out in-house training for the employees.

Energy and emissions

Energy management

To regulate our energy balance, we have established an energy management system at some of our facilities. On the basis of this data collection, we try to continually reduce our energy consumption and to energetically optimize our plants.

Waste and recycling

Disposal management

For waste disposal, we keep strictly to the internationally applicable specifications and laws. Guaranteed compliance with these rules is the responsibility of each individual company. We aim to recycle most of our waste. Where this is not possible, we dispose of our waste properly and professionally.

Transport safety and logistics

Safely and efficiently from A to B

Around the globe, we are vigilant about safe and secure storage and professional transport of hazardous goods and products. For this purpose, the logistics department is responsible for the shipment of goods. Hazardous goods representatives are appointed to supervise hazardous goods. These representatives stay informed at all times on the latest information relating to regulations and laws and facilitate compliance with regulations in the company. To prevent accidents and improve safety for our employees and the environment, hazardous goods representatives are also tasked with checking the driver, vehicle and load for each shipment according to the relevant criteria of the hazardous goods representative regulation. They document the results and acquired data regarding the transport of hazardous goods in a yearly hazardous goods report. In 2015, no accidents or penalties occurred in connection with hazardous goods. The supervision of hazardous materials representatives falls in the department of the environmental protection officer. The responsibilities of environmental protection officers include the topic of waste and disposal—they classify waste-related work, counsel, inform and train responsible persons, act as contact persons for agencies and identify cost-saving potential in waste disposal.

Most of the hazardous goods we transport fall into the area of waste. Otherwise, isolated products from other manufacturers are shipped, such as lacquers for repairing paint damage. The packaging of the manufacturer is reused for shipping to guarantee optimal transport.
